Foxall Studio invited me to collaborate on Kaplankaya, Capital Partners’ prime coastal development project on the southwest Aegean coast of Turkey. A refined, contemporary Turkish coastal living destination that integrates harmoniously with the area’s local people and their cultural heritage. As part of their commitment with sustainability they were looking to create a new olive brand that could be commercialized internationally whilst providing a sustainable income for the local producers. The studio was requested to develop a new name and visual identity for an olive oil brand that would communicate their ethical qualities to key audiences and to create a packaging that would stand out in a notoriously crowded category. My involvement included project planning, travelling to Turkey and doing ethnographic research in the olive oil plantations, olive oil processing facilities as well visiting the target audience's homes to explore their general perception of the category as well as learning about their unique eating habits. Also visited the retail point to do a competitive benchmark, built some insights which served for the brand strategy and creative brief development. The successful branding designed by Iain Foxall captures the organization's engaging spirit in the essence ‘A love affair with the land and its people‘ The name encapsulates the brand’s promise, values and personality. The visual identity has a universal look to appeal to a local, national and international audience.
